To cast this in terms of educational futures & trends, I suppose this reflects the trend identified by Jane Jacobs in "Dark Age Ahead" for higher learning being replaced by credentialling.

Thanks for the brief overview of the history of the lecture. I learned quite a lot, but for me the most important point of your presentation was the dependence of corporations on universities to provide guideposts in hiring. I think that you are quite right in that business and educational institutions will continue that symbiotic relationship.
