The following TED Talk may provide an interesting perspective on social networks and decision-making.

(I tried to embed the video, but couldn't make it work)

Nicholas Christakis talks about induction, homophily, and confounding as possible explanations for the connection between obesity and individuals' social networks.

Raises some interesting questions about reflexivity and causation in social networks.

Sees social networks as sorts of living things that persist across time.

Talks of emotional contagion and this makes me think of "The Aquarian Conspiracy" of the late '70s, early '80s. Will online networks enable us to reach a tipping point for shaping productive social change? Are online connections too tenuous?
